Fabulosity Is Not About Fat

NEWSFLASH!

Okay y’all. Would you EVER look at her and call her fat? EVER?! I’m willing to bet that society has you believing anything over 130 lbs, sculpted arms, a medium chest, and a killer booty is fat/unfit.

It’s – fucking – not.

I weigh about 198 lbs. I have 76 (yes, 76) pounds of muscle. Then there’s the weight of my skeleton, water weight, my organs… and some fat. Some fat isn’t bad.

What’s bad is the amount of time we spend manipulating and contorting ourselves to be who WE THINK others want us to be. I believe that no individual (for the most part) truly wants another to be “thin” or to look different. They’ve lost their inner truth and the pervasive societal idea has led them to believe they’re not enough. And that feeling is awful. So they’ve projected it onto others.

I’ve had doctors speak with me about being in a higher percentile than others. I’ve had them mock my concerns because if I’d just lose weight I wouldn’t have asthma or Hydradenitis Superativa. My knee wouldn’t ever hurt. And there may be some truth that weight plays a role. AND – let’s look at the whole human here…

Perhaps compassion. Perhaps realize that things aren’t black and white. My body isn’t fat. At all. My body has some fat on it. I don’t need to change because anybody else is uncomfortable. I get to change because I want to. And because my body morphs with time and changes. But not because sugar is bad or I am flawed or I don’t measure up.

I’m so glad I got to chat with S this morning about this. It was so validating. If any of you have been mocked or labeled about your weight or anything else, know that it’s not about you. You are enough.

I am enough.
